6 Pop Culture Events That Inspired Me This Week

I am always taking in new inspiration every day and some how applying it to my life. Here are six pop culture events that happened in the last week or so that have inspired me.

6.) The "Ellen Selfie" from the Oscars
You might wonder why in the world the "Ellen selfie" has inspired me. It's not so much Ellen taking the selfie as it is Lupita's brother hopping in the frame. I saw an interview on The Ellen Show with Lupita regarding her brother jumping into the shot. Lupita said (I'm paraphrasing here) that her brother is a Freshman in college and lives life in an exclamation point! He saw an opportunity and went for it! I love that. If only I had the courage to live life in an exclamation point!

5.) LeBron James breaking records
Usually, sports are not my number one "go to" for inspiration but I can certainly appreciate talented individuals who never give up on their craft. LeBron James scored a record breaking 61 points against the Charlotte Bobcats on Monday (espn.com). I love that kind of hard work and dedication and inspiring others to achieve their goals and break new records!

4.) Jimmy Fallon's Polar Plunge
Technically, this happened last Sunday, I think. But Jimmy talked about it on The Tonight Show this week. He did The Polar Plunge in which he jumped into a the freezing (literally) Lake Michigan all to support The Special Olympics.

3.) Photo of JFK and Jaqueline Kennedy on their wedding day
I came across this on the internet this week from Life magazine. Actually, this whole website inspires me because it validates why photography is so important. Life.time.com is filled with images through time of people living life in different time periods. I scrolled across this image and absolutely fell in love with it.

2.) Jennifer Lawrence Falls again at the oscars
I love Jennifer Lawrence. I think she is really cool, calm, collected, and just herself. She looked stunning this year at the Oscar's and I absolutely loved her dress. For those of you who don't know, she fell at last year's Oscar's while going up for her acceptance speech. This year, she tripped over an orange cone on the red carpet. Poor girl. But what is so inspiring to me is that she picked herself up with grace and laughed at herself. Let's face it, at one point or another, we are all going to fall flat on our face in life, but how are we going to handle getting back up?

1.) Lupita Nyong's's Oscar Acceptance Speech
When Lupita won an Oscar last Sunday night for her role in 12 Years A Slave, I was in awe of the fact that she carried herself with such grace and elegance. This was her first Oscar nomination which, is such an achievement to begin with. That in and of itself is inspiring. Then, she gave her acceptance speech and pretty much won the hearts of America in my opinion. Her whole speech was beautiful but this line spoke to me the most, "no matter where you're from, your dreams are valid." Let that be true for all of us as we chase our dreams. (see her Oscar speech in its entirety here.)
