Having an engagement session prior to the wedding is great for sending out Save The Date's, invitations, building a slideshow for your wedding, etc. but there are other huge benefits to having the same photographer take the engagement and wedding photos.
When I got engaged, I had selected a photographer for our engagement photos who happened to be booked on our wedding day. The photographer who took our engagement pictures did a great job but I wish I had done more research before hand to save myself (and my fiancé) some time and money. So, when I went searching for a wedding photographer, I found the perfect fit for us and she included the engagement session in the wedding package. (Now we have an abundance of engagement photos but that's okay, more memories!!) Now that I am a photographer, I think it is so important to have engagement photos taken with the photographer who is going to shoot your wedding. Here's why.
1.) You can really save some money by finding a photographer who includes the engagement shoot in with the wedding package. I happen to include the engagement shoot in my wedding package because I think it makes it easier on my clients. You don't have to search for a photographer to do one or the other, you can just find one who will do both for you!
2.) Having an engagement shoot with the photographer who is photographing your wedding gives you a great opportunity to get to know the photographer even better (and vise versa). I usually take my couples out for coffee and ask them questions about their relationship, how they met, what they love about each other, etc. prior to the engagement shoot. I genuinely want to know their story. All of this helps me document their love even better. Then, when we get to the session, we already have met each other. All of this develops comfortability and trust at the shoot which only grows on the wedding day. :)
As with anything else, it is entirely up to you how you want to go about your wedding planning. I hope this shines some light on the benefits of having an engagement shoot with your wedding photographer.
Have a great one!
All The Best,
