February 13, 2010

I remember everything so vividly. It was just like any other Saturday. Nick had to work in the morning, so I went to the mall, got my nails done, then went to the gym at my apartment complex. (I think I even remember what I wore to the gym!) I ran a couple of miles on the treadmill (it was too cold outside) and lifted some weights, waiting for Nick's phone call to tell me he was off work.

We had a meeting with our Youth Pastor at the time, Matt, at 2:30. Nick and I had always talked about helping with the youth group from the moment we walked in to our church doors. It seemed like a dream God had planted in both of our hearts, to do together.

When Nick called me to say he was coming over to pick me up for our meeting with Matt, I had just left the gym. Trying to hurry, I put on some regular clothes but didn't really shower. (No big deal, right? ha!) Nick made me lunch (beans on toast, an English dish that I requested) and even unloaded my dish washer for me! What a guy!

I still remember our conversation on the way to the church…everything I said seemed so meaningless and silly now because I had no idea what was about to happen. Our lives were about to change forever.

We walked into the church and I remember thinking how weird it was being at church on a Saturday because no one was really there. We walked down the steps to the Journey room for our meeting, opened the doors, and a slideshow of pictures of Nick and I immediately began playing with a Matt Wertz song in the background. Nick brought me in and sat me down on the love seat at the front to watch the slideshow. The room was dark with tons of candles lit and a dozen pink roses on the couch. I was so shocked but wasn't sure what was going on! It was Feb. 13th…was this the moment Nick was going to propose? Or was this just a Valentine's day thing?

At the end of the slideshow, Nick gave a beautiful speech and proposed. I am so blessed to have Nick in my life as my best friend, leader, and my love.

After we called all of our friends and family to share the news, we went to dinner on the plaza.

With today marking four years since the day I said, "YES!" I thought I would share a little bit of our story.

I would LOVE to hear your engagement story too! Just comment below!

All the best,
